How to register a death
Birth, death and marriage records are kept at the Office of the Registrar in each of 5 jurisdictions (called muhafazat) each covering subdivisions of 10-15 villages (Kalam Al Noufouss). Any death should be registered in the place the doctor certifies it took place. The doctor certifying the death will advise you which office to go to. Copies of death certificates can be obtained within a week from the mayor (Mukhtar) by submitting an application and paying a nominal fee. You can take them to be endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if you consider it necessary.
You may also want to translate and legalise the document in Lebanon to use in the UK.
You may wish to register the death at the Embassy. You will then obtain a standard British death certificate. The main reason for doing this is to obtain a standard UK document in English for use in the UK. We will need the Lebanese death certificate legalised by a sworn translator and the Ministries. This carries a statutory Consular fee.
